The Pen on the Paper, the Charm in the Painting

 

Yongle Chen, born in Chongqing in 1944, from Fenghua, Zhejiang.  He was appointed as the committee of the National Painting Exhibition Judging Panel for several times. And he was engaged in print, heavy color painting, ink painting. His works have been collected by the following galleries, such as China Art Gallery, Jiangsu Art Gallery, Luxun Art Gallery, Shanxi Art Gallery, Sichuan Art Gallery.

Mr. Chen’s Work “the Charm of Spring” 

The persistence of the 46 years in painting took Mr. Chen the mellow of the art with the unique happiness when drinking. In the process of painting creation, Yongle Chen has its own opinion: "the most important of painting is that how do you draw it. Only if you enter their life for a long time that you can feel the abundant cultural connotation, and then you can paint well. Otherwise, the painting is some city-girls wearing the national costume. Therefore a good painting has the painter and the life. And Mr. Chen also have been towards this direction and express himself and life in painting.

 

Searching for the Art 

In the process of 46 years of painting creation, Mr.Chen had been doing the print-creating for nearly 20years. At that time Mr. Chen worked in the Yunnan Artist Association, and said: "I didn’t have my own time to do my creation in my working time, but I can do it in my spare time.”  In 17 years, he was doing the creation by squeezing time. Mr. Chen won the bronze medals in the 6th and 7th National Art Prints, as well as, the gold medal of the foundation and the Creative Award in the Japan Chinese Print gold medal China engraving.

 

 After 20 years, Mr. Chen began to study the heavy color painting, and also got great achievements. In the recent 6 years, Mr. Chen has been concentrated on the ink painting. As far as he was concentrated, "the print-creating is a physical labor. You have to be both a carpenter and a painter."

 

Mr. Chen believed that painting depends on your interest. And you were willing to try it. Like Picasso, he can paint oil painting, sculpture, and do print.

 

 The fate with the painting of the national minority

His ink painting showed the amorous feelings and character of the Dai nationality. His paintings, he said, would never separate with their life. The Dai was most suitable for the ink painting, because the Dai had the beauty of morbidezza and gentle, which would be harmonious by using the ink. First, ethnic costume; the Dai was different from others, and the clothing line of the Dai was concise, lively and enjoyable. Mr. Chen had strong feelings about the Dai after several visits.

 

 Interestingly, there was a heavy color in Mr. Chen’s painting; this was a new exploration and research. In his own words: "I was in total relaxation to close to the ink. I tried to find something in the ink painting and combined it with the heavy color painting to form a good artistic form and language."

 

The painting had mixed with his blood. In the world of painting, Mr. Chen only can see the pen on the paper, and the charm in the painting.
